This beginner-friendly small-batch recipe makes two 30g tins and is perfect for those who enjoy creating their own botanical skincare at home. Ingredients
Makes two 30g tins (approximately 60g total)
- 5g dried calendula flowers
- 55–60g sweet almond oil (for infusion, allowing a little extra for straining)
- 50g strained calendula-infused almond oil
- 10g beeswax
Directions
Step 1 – Infuse your calendula oil
Add dried calendula flowers and sweet almond oil to your fuzetrix MOJO1. Select the infusion setting and infuse at 100°C for 20 minutes, following the manufacturer's operating instructions.
Step 2 – Strain
Once the infusion is complete, carefully strain out the calendula flowers using a fine mesh strainer or cheesecloth. Weigh out 50g of your finished infused oil.
Step 3 – Melt
Add 50g of calendula-infused almond oil and 10g beeswax to a heat-safe container. Gently heat using a double boiler until the beeswax has completely melted.
Step 4 – Pour
Carefully pour the melted mixture into two clean, dry 30g tins.
Step 5 – Cool and set
Allow the balm to cool completely and solidify before putting the lids on.
Step 6 – Enjoy!
Your homemade calendula balm is ready to use. Store in a cool, dry place.
Recipe Note
This is a small-batch recipe designed for home herbalists and DIY skincare enthusiasts.
- Always use completely dried calendula flowers for oil infusions to help prevent moisture-related spoilage.
- Make sure your tins and equipment are clean and completely dry.
- Calendula has a long history of traditional use in topical skincare preparations.
- Perform a small patch test before first use.
- For external use only. Avoid eyes and mucous membranes.
- Avoid use if allergic to calendula or other plants in the Asteraceae family. Sweet almond oil is not suitable for those with almond allergies.
- Discard if you notice changes in smell, colour or texture.
